Request for Proposals: Catalyst Grant Program 2024 (up to $40,000)

The Catalyst Grant Program is a collaboration between the Urban Institute and the Microsoft Justice Reform Initiative to support the efforts of nonprofit organisations to use data and technology to advance racial equity and reform in the adult criminal legal system.

Racism and racial biases are deeply ingrained in the criminal legal system, causing disproportionate harm to communities of color. Even brief interactions with the legal system can lead to significant consequences, including job loss, housing instability, burdensome fines, and destabilized family relationships. These systemic issues perpetuate cycles of disadvantage, making it crucial to address and reform the legal system to ensure equity and justice for all individuals, regardless of their racial or ethnic background.

To support local organizations working toward equity and reform in this system, the Program provides funds to cover project costs, project implementation assistance, peer learning opportunities, and access to Microsoft technology and related support.

Benefits of Catalyst Grant Program

  • Selected applicants will receive $40,000 in grant funds; assistance on data, policy, and community engagement from the Urban Institute; access to Microsoft technology and related support; and peer learning opportunities.
